Hi,
The cut over has been postponed. Currently there is no switchover date
as of yet. There are various reasons why switchover has not occurred.
Some have to do with the Map system and automatic vehicle locator
systems coming up w/ some anomolies where it would show a unit on a
parallel street instead of the street it's actually on and other issues
where 2 units are close to eachother. Some other issues have to do with
dispatching. What they have done w/ both police and fire rescue is have
dispatchers sit at the new ECC which will now be called the PSCC or
Public Safety Communications Center - and while the live dispatchers are
working in Rockville, the dispatcher at the new center in gaithersburg
would mirror them. What's happened is that w/ everything that has to
occur w/ the new system, while better and more efficient - the learning
curve is greater than expected. The dispatchers in the mirror situation
at the new center were not able to keep up w/ those in rockville. They
just need more time - so more training and more practice.
It's currently being said that we are 2 - 3 weeks away - but there is no
solid date set as of yet.
As soon as a new date is set - I will try to post it.
Thanks,
Joe
