All,
A friend sent this to me a couple of days ago. Looks like he may have
forwarded it to me as well.

Nothing dramatic this evening, but Tripoli on 11300
USB is coming in audible but weak, easily understood
because HF has low atmospheric noise tonight. During
the first Gulf War this was an interesting freq.

"There are shortwave comms on intercontinental routes,
so-called 'MWARA' (Major World Air Routes Area). For
example the transatlantic MWARA NATs (North Atlantic-A
til F) with the main ground stations Shanwick
[Ireland]{Callsign: EIP}, Santa Maria [Acores]{CSY},
Gander [Canada]{VFG}, Iceland Radio at Reykjavk
{TFW}, New York {KEA5} using a wide selection of
frequencies between 2 and 21 MHz. Or the AFI-3
(Africa) net on 5517.0 and 11300.0 kHz with Cairo
{Callsign: SUC}, Tripoli {5AF}, Nairobi {5YD},
Khartoum {STK}, Addis Ababa {ETD3}, Asmara {E3A},
Seychelles {S7Z}, Mogadishu Information {6OM} and
Sana'a {Callsign unknown} etc. plus from time to time
some minor domestic airports , specially in Sudan and
Libya."
