Hi all. I thought I might drop the list a note and let people know that
there's been some changes in the Capitol Hill Monitors web pages at:
http://henney.com/chm/
Our introduction page has a couple of new features. Under the new user
FAQ, I've added a section on antennas and coax. There are some reviews,
pages on coax (loss figures, ect.), mobile, handheld and base antenna
comments and reviews. With the warmer weather coming (and hamfest season!)
it's time to start planning those new antenna projects. I've also added
links to the Trunkedradio.net and Monitoring Times forums; as always,
registration is required before one can fully utilize them. There are also
a couple of links at the bottom of the page describing IRLP and Echolink;
to put it simply, this is a way for Amateur repeaters (and users) to
connect to stations worldwide utilizing VoIP. It's true it's a bit
controversial, but these links would be useful if, one day, you are
listening to a 450 repeater announcing an Australian callsign :.)
Sadly, I removed the Delaware State Police link. They have recently
discontinued their rebroadcast of their digital county freqs if to the
heightened sense of security.
Along the lines of rebroadcasts over the Internet, 2 new links were added
to the DC page; Jeff Smith, who runs the Southern Maryland yahoo board, at
times rebroadcasts the DC CAP flights he hears in the chat room. You
should know that to join the chat room, yahoo will send you some software -
and it's a bit tempermental at best. A far more reliable link can be found
on Shoutcast, which is also linked here.
As a side note, I noticed last night that someone had set up a
rebroadcast of the Frederick County and Baltimore County Fire/EMS.
Therefore, the link on the Maryland page is retained. As I type this, both
the DC CAP and the Baltimore county feed are found there.
You need not search thru Shoutcast to get to the scanners page- the links
on the Maryland and DC pages will take you directly to it. You need only
locate the link to which you want to listen :.)
In addition, there's been some minor maintenance to other links scattered
thru the site.
I am always interested in seeing what people want to see on these pages.
I will be maintaining these pages on a semi-regular basis (probably once
every month or two), so if you have something you'd like to see (or have a
link which has got nothing but garbage freqs on it and it should be
removed), email me (my email address is at the top of every page, spelled
out). These pages are public, you do not need to be a CHM member to use or
access them.
I will be at the Winterfest this weekend in Pa.- will I see you there?
