Expired callsigns can be searched on the FCC database. That being said, my
experience with the FCC database searches is that very infrequently a search
does not work as advertised and sometimes a record returns with one search
criteria i. e., a known "callsign" but not with another "i.e.,
"state/frequency". Most of the time the search engines are pretty good but they
are not perfect.
