>use now?

It is fully operational, and I recall other users of this list reporting that
there was a lot of police reference to using the "800 radios" while the
snipers were on the loose. I suspect that the new system is in some sort of
"parallel" use right now, and full switch-over is probably soon.

>And will MCPD be simulcasting, or will they just cut over?

I'd bet that if the police DO simulcast, it won't be for long, as we
experienced in Fairfax County. Fire/Rescue is different-- since they'll need
to support volunteer alerting and such, they'll probably simulcast the
dispatch channel for some time to come. I think you will find that
operations channels will NOT be simulcast, as we now have in Loudoun and
Fairfax.

Hate to say it, but Uniden has us over a barrel with this digital scanning
business, and "supply and demand" means writing a big check. I still believe
that if you want to listen to Montgomery County, there is no "stopgap"
 for you.

Jim
