[Scan-DC] Scanner purchase opinions?

All,

I'm thinking about purchasing a new scanner and would value your
opinions/flames/input. Am looking at the Bearcat BC350A, which is $109.99
at Scanner World, and would particularly appreciate hearing from someone who
has one. The biggest downside to it that I can see is that it only covers
up to 512 MHz, but I'm not sure how much of a downside that is, since
everyone that's on 800 MHz also seems to be simulcasting somewhere else.

Oh, I should state that I live in Montgomery County MD and normally, I
listen mainly to MC fire dispatches... police only if something is going on
locally. Will listen in on other stuff if the traffic interests me.

Right now I'm using two older scanners, a Regency Z-30 that's slowly dying
and usually goes with me in the car, and a Radio Shack PRO-2023 in the
house.

I figure that the jury is still out on Montgomery's new system (if they ever
get it up!) and am not about to invest $700 in the new digital scanner (and
card) yet, until everyone figures out who's doing what, and what exactly
they're doing.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Regards,

Doug
