There are two options on the Maryland DNR form, "A" and "B", that specify
different levels of care. Conveniently, they generally correspond to the
levels of care from ALS or BLS units. In either case, if cardiac arrest
occurs, care ceases. If a BLS unit arrives on the scene of an ALS
dispatch and finds that the patient has a valid DNR form with B option
selected, the ALS unit may be placed in service.
Originally, there were no options. A DNR form corresponded to what is now
DNR-B.
