[Scan-DC] MoCo house fire

I went out just before that fire started, and got home just after they
cleared! But it was a heckuvafire... $1.2 million damage on Thistle Bridge
Drive or Court or something. It went to 2 alarms. Electrical in nature,
they think - the woman had just plugged in the Xmas tree lights! She left
the room, heard a crash, and the smoke detector went off. FMs will be there
today completing their investigation. (I got all this last night from the
media hotline recording, 240/777-2442).

Are you sure the bread truck wasn't the Rockville Canteen unit? I think
that's what it must have been - I work in Rockville at Montgomery College;
will try to take a ride down by the fire house (3) and see if I can spot
anything matching the description of the suspect vehicle.

What color was it, and are you sure it belonged to Rockville? I just
remembered, it also could have been Air 1, the BCC rescue squad unit that
refills the SCBA bottles.

(There's another bread truck (step-van) kicking around somewhere for the
dive team, last I knew it was at 29 in Germantown.)

(Speaking of bread trucks, is anyone on this list old enough to remember the
HeartMobile?)

Informationwise, most (if not all) of the ambulances in the county are
either Frightliners (Freightliners!) or F*rd chassis-cabs... Wheaton RS
still has the F*rd van-type units, I think. (A couple of weeks ago, I was
out in Savage and saw a Howard unit that was an International!)

Bread Truck 17's clear!

:)

>Howdy all,
> Did any of our Montgomery County listeners hear any radio traffic for
>the house fire off of Georgia Avenue today? I was driving with my Dad
>east down Norbeck Road, approaching Georgia, when we saw a column of smoke
>off to our left. As we got closer to Georgia we could even see some
>orange through the trees. We pulled into the neighborhood (Manor Woods I
>believe it's called), parked on a side street and walked between some
>houses until we got to the fire. It was burning pretty bad, most of the
>second floor was gone by the time we got there. Lots of firefighters on
>all sides of the house putting water on the fire, they eventually got it
>put out.
>
>This is in Sandy Spring (Station 40)'s first due. I saw the Quint 40, a
>ladder truck from either Station 16 or 18, and the engine from the other
>Sandy Spring station (Station 4) providing water supply on the street we
>parked on. As we left we saw some units from Chevy Chase, Colesville, and
>Truck 12, from the Hillandale station on New Hampshire Ave. near the PG
>County border.
>
>Oh yeah...before we saw the column we got passed by a Rockville ambulance
>which we quickly figured out was headed to the fire. The odd thing was,
>it looked like a converted bread/milk/UPS truck. My first thought was
>"What is a bread truck doing with lights and sirens on it?" :-) Do we
>have anybody in Rockville that's seen this thing?
>
