Hi,
From what I remember from that day, several Howard County units (including
chiefs) were staging at Montgomery County Station 15 (Burtonsville) on
standby for the incident, plus to maintain coverage in the eastern area of
Montgomery County. Complimenting the multitude of Montgomery County Rescue
Apparatus was a full Hazmat Assignment ( I think that's from Stations 3
and/or 31 ), plus various DC, PG County EMS, Fire & Rescue units were all
there assisting. I thought I heard mention of a foam truck requested and
later cancelled, because of the possibility of the train's spilled fuel
igniting.
In addition to fire board and the Montgomery County Police, there were MSP
Aviations' Troopers 1, 2 & 8, plus MedStar Air Evacuation units assisting
with the seriously injured early on in the operation transporting the
seriously injured to surrounding trauma centers.
As I recall, Montgomery had Rescue/Fireground command post operations setup
on Channel 1/7 (153.9500)& EMS Command operating off of Channel 3
(155.5200). Mutual Aid Operations were mostly conducted on FMARS-1
(154.2950) and FMARS-2 (154.2800), which is fairly routing when multiple
agencies are involved. In addition, MCDFRS Communications placed the county
in Condition Red status just prior to 1500hrs, because of the shortage of
available units.
I'm sorry I didn't record any of the incident myself, too and I wish I could
be more specific on the various assignments dispatched from around the area.
Figured I'd chime in while the information was as fresh as possible in my
memory. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work, and lost communications
once inside my building in Columbia by 1545hrs.
