460.600 is Harford County, Maryland's primary fire dispatch channel.
Harford County is in the northeastern part of MD, for those who are
not familiar. Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Broad Creek Boy Scout Camp,
Edgewood Arsenal, Conowingo Dam, Peachbottom Atomic Power Plant. Me.
Port Deposit is in Cecil County, just the other side of the
Susquehanna River. Immediately on the north side of Conowingo Dam on
U.S. Route 1. Perhaps you heard Harford County responding to a mutual
aid call in Cecil County, since Port Deposit is on the county lines,
separated only by the river. Each county can operate the other's
frequencies, especially for stations near the common borders.
Harford County sheriff and public safety has signed a multizillion
dollar agreement to go to a batwing digital 800 system within the
next few years. The current UHF system works well and is perfectly
adequate, but Motorola decided the county hadn't spent enough money
with them lately so they directed the county to replace the UHF
system with the 800.
Trunking the 20 or so UHF channels from the various county agencies
would have made much more sense.
I do some commo and covert operations electronics for the multi
jurisdictional drug task force operating in this area, so I am fairly
intimate with the systems up here.
