In this context BC = "broadcast", referring to your usual 88-108MHz
FM (or AM or TV or SW).

IF = Intermediate Frequency.  This is a concept related to the
superheterodyne receiver.  Someone else gave a bit of explanation,
but it really requires a bit more than an e-mail.
