Openksky's protocol is designed to support communication of both digital
voice and packet data simultaneously in a single RF channel via TDMA (2 to1)
in a 25khz channel. Two users can send any simultaneous combination of data
and digitized voice. Open Sky supports End to end IP connectivity, a data
rate of 19.2kbps in a 25kHz channel and digital voice using DVSI's AMBE
vocoder. It even supports OTARAC similar to Moto 's OTAR but OTARAC allows
over the air reprogramming and configuration. Trunking control embedded on
every channel, eliminating dedicated control channels unlike Moto's
dedicated control channel scheme. Opensky also supports roaming with the
correct configuration. Data transport is based on (CDPD) protocols and
switching technology. Overall a nice concept but its proprietary air
interface and financial weakness will make it another Geotek. So kiss it
good bye.
