The first part of the paragraph is quite true. In the name of
'national security' lots of stuff has been tossed.

I would disagree with the second half of the following paragraph
starting with "with aircaft now allowed to go just about any where".
The exact opposite is true. When landing to the south, (i.e. coming
down from the northwest) flight paths are straight into DCA with NO
deviations. Deviate from the straight in approach and you are in big
trouble. Departures to the south follow the same path as pre 9/11
but the new procedures require a maximum performance climb out - to
get you as far away as soon as possible. This is much nosier for all
involved.

> The Washington Post today, Friday, verifies this. The metro
>section carries an article that indicates that the flight paths
>worked out over many, many years of coordination between all parties
>involved have apparently been voided, with aircraft now allowed to
>go now just about anywhere they want and by any route desired, and
>without much, if any consideration for any factor other than what is
>worked out between the carrier and the controllers for their
>convenience.
