Hi Jerry,
Glad you and family were safe.
Is there some old wives tale about lightning never strikes twice? I bet your
wife will argue with the old wives about that!!!
I recall your discussion at past SADXA meetings, where you noted a hole in
your concrete floor after the prior hit, where your COAX was coiled. You
noted it took most everything out in your house.
Your advice to all at the time -- get the COAX OUT OF THE SHACK and THE
HOUSE and NOT EVEN NEAR THE HOUSE.
Did you just prove out the wisdom of your own advice? You certainly have
the experience, authority and proven track record NOW to continue to give
this same advice - as you did.
I am currently putting up my old tower at a new QTH.
I plan to implement the W6XI method to specifically protect as you suggest.
It know it is quite traumatic to get hit.
In 1958 my parents tolerated my Ham Radio, until lighting hit the antenna
one night, and sparks flew everywhere. I recall looking out the window and
seeing melted aluminum fireballs descending from the top of my mast, after
one of the elements of my 3 ele High Gain Mono-bander was hit.
Your right, it can get fairly exciting!!

Thanks to all that commented on my experience with the Lightning.
Bill thanks for the heads up on where to monitor the lightning. The comment
I made with regard to counting between flash and crash goes on as I am away
from the computer but I will start paying attention with the site you
mentioned.
Thanks to you all for the good wishes. The monsoon is not gone by any
measure so there is plenty of opportunity to get hit yet. Be on your guard
and disconnect your cables coming into the shack so you don't invite the
lightning in.
