Dick, taking your idea a step or two beyond where you'd probably want to
go, I just came up with the ideal Go-kit for the well-equipped hamfest
browser.  I've customized my list to best fit the hamfest on the
northeast side of town, since that's in the Target parking lot.

Step one is to park nearby and bring a shopping cart near your car.
Load it with a small Honda generator (to test the boatanchors), a 12VDC
car battery (to test the more modern rigs), and short adapters, patch
cords,  coax cables, etc. In addition to the tiny SA, bring along a
dummy load, and multimeter. Then clamp on a mobile antenna for good
measure.  The cart can be used as a counterpoise.  Finish it off with a
logbook and a pencil.  After all, you never know when you might work
some DX and it would be good to document the event.  Finish it off with
a red bandanna on top of the antenna and you've got pretty much
everything you need to test those radios on the spot.  :-)
