Wes, in rereading your response I see that you had an additional concern 
regarding the FT-8 software as possibly being ransomeware.  Security 
software that uses a whitelist instead of a blacklist probably will keep 
your system more secure.  But no security software will catch every bit 
of the malware the first time around, since the new malware might still 
fool you into approving it.  It all comes down to one sort of "risk vs. 
inconvenience" issue or another.
