All

It's a while since I've posted an update on Roger G3SXW - I've been
diverted by a family issue for the last couple of months so apologies
for not doing so.

Roger has been in a nursing jome for the past four or five months - he
likes it there and has settled well.

The injuries he sustained following the fall last November have
stabilised and he has now started planning for the future with his wife.

However those injuries are life-changing and I would be very surprised
if Roger gets on the radio again soon, if at all. He has difficulty
walking and requires someone nearby to steady him - thus he now has a
wheelchair and the family are thinking about a new home that is
wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately home-hunting is not so easy at the
moment due to the Covid situation; also he relying on support from his
son in the US, who can't get over to the UK at the moment for the same
reason, so a new home - if that's the right option for them - may take a
while.

The other major long-term damage is loss of much of his sight. He can
see shapes but can't pick out detail - he can't operate his mobile
phone/laptop for instance and cannot determine who is in front of him
unless they speak, so he will need assistance with daily activities
going forward too.

Given the challenges that he has, he will likely need assistance from
carers full time, or at least much of the time, so whether the best
solution for that is care at home, or in a nursing home - I assume that
is what the family are pondering on at the moment.
