Hi Alan,

My ACURITE detector is a handheld unit.

I think this detector is targeting outdoor enthusiasts, like people golfing
and fishing.

I think yours may be a step above what I have, since you locate it outside
away from other signal generators, such as computers and light switches.

I have a wireless DAVIS WX station connected to the internet's Weather
Underground Network. I should check to see if DAVIS may support a Lightning
detector for my WX Station as well. Such a detector might be superior to
mine.

Yes, the lightning maps are handy.

Thanks for the info.

Bill,

Mine is also an ACURITE weather station. The lightening detector in hanging
from a tree in my front yard. I have tracked it against some of the
internet sites and it seems to correlate pretty will with the approaching
storm and warnings from the TV station weather application on my phone.
The detector seems to pick up the strikes about 40 miles out and tracks with
strike reports getting as close as 8 t0 13 miles away. I have not checked
it against the total reported strike numbers from any source, but overall, I
think its warning are very helpful in letting me know when the strikes are
close enough for me to be disconnecting the antenna.

Hi Alan,

What are you using for a lightning detector?

I have an Acurite that seems to work, but I have not actually sat outside to
watch and flashes and correlate of the detection (or not). Sometimes I turn
it on during a clear day, just to see if it still detects!! Hi Hi

I also use lightning maps to get an idea of real time intensity and
location.

My lightening detector has registered over 60 strikes since the beginning of
the month.
C so there has been a fair amount of activity.
