Entry level DXer here chasing Qs for DXCC using CW search & pounce method. My “big event” experience was my first QSO using SPLIT. Took a while to figure it out and was a bit awkward but I “busted the pile-up” in just 3 calls using 100 watts and a G5RV up 30 feet on my fiberglass pole. My list of contacts were China (PRC) - France - Spain - Ukraine - Curacao - Germany - Martinique - Brunei. These were made over a series of days and nights - not during any contest. Most were made when I found them alone just getting started calling for contacts. All Qs but one did not require operating split. They called - I answered - hello! Most were more than the typical 599 TU QRZ? - what I call “drive-bye QSOs”. I was using my Ten-Tec Omni VII. A week ago my electrician wired my shack for 220vac so I can now use my Ten-Tec Centurian QSK if I need a little fire: a pair of 3-500G tubes. Love the glow!!
