Hi A.J.

Well welcome back A.J.

Yes, I am sure after being inactive for awhile, you have noticed that
"things are different" Hi Hi.

FT8 is teaching many of us something new -- almost daily, as seen by some
recent posts.

Carl KB7AZ pointed out in previous presentations, that slower bit rate
provides greatest intelligibility, due to improved Signal to Noise ratio.

FT8 clearly points this out, since FT8 Contacts are occurring in conditions
like as you mentioned. To me, the FT8 bit rate is about as slow as you can
go before the band changes!! Hi Hi.

Also, for the ham who may be hearing impaired, DXCC [or whatever] can a
reality with FT8. Also, a very modest investment in equipment and antenna is
all that is required for this paper chase.

Also, for the ham that is digitally prone, it is a great escape.

To me, Ham Radio is an incredibly diverse hobby. We all find our niche in
the hobby and have fun. But I agree, a contact is an exciting event. It is
like fishing in many ways including: You never know when or what you are
going to catch. After all the theory behind how to catch a fish, the
question is -- Did you catch a fish? Sometimes, the catch is not according
to the book!! Hi Hi

Thanks Bill.
Although the presentation was very interesting, to me, it makes little
difference on the path, corridor or whatever, as long as I'm able to make
the contact. Canary Island was a first ever contact with them. Just proves
that you don't have to have a lot of power or antenna to make great contacts
on FT8.
I've been a ham for over 40 years (20 years inactive) and have never had so
much fun as I've had in the last 2 years of activity on digital radio.
Just grateful!!!
A.J.

Hi A.J.

You will note at 0600z, New Zealand 40m station was about 1.5 hours prior to
Sunset. Thus the New Zealand Station was well within the 40m DX DAY
Corridor as presented on 1-17-19 at SADXA. This 40m path was likely SP, as
majority of path was in darkness, with access to the F layer the entire
path.

Canary was a Night to Night path.

Always fun to consider...What Happened? Hi Hi

I got you beat. Worked New Zealand on 40M and Canary Islands on 80M with an
end fed long wire, at 20 ft with 30 watts around 0600 UTC last nite. FT8.
