The FCC finally approved two new low frequency ham bands. Without getting
into details, basically we now have two very long wave bands. Here is a link
that has the gory details - the first about 15 pages are all that apply.

This document was released a few months ago, but officially today it became
effective when it was recorded in the national register.
Basically:
135.7 - 137.8 KHz (2200 meters) 2.1 KHz bandwidth, 1W EIRP
472 - 479 KHz (630 meters) 6 KHz bandwidth, 5 W EIRP
60 meter antenna height (almost 200 feet)
I could find no restriction regarding mode, beacon
operation, etc.
There is one big caveat, you have to notify the utility company of your
location and they can deny your right to operate if they decide you are too
close to a power line that uses PLC. Details can be found in the link
above.
Please keep in mind, this E-mail is just a summary, rough outline, to let
you folks know. There are, of course, lots of little details that I am
leaving off, am not aware of, or possibly am mistaken about.
It will be fun to talk about it Saturday. You ARE going to the picnic, of
course!!
