[SADXA] Gray-line Anallysis (W7EXG) RE: DX Spot: OH0Z 7.003

Hi Wes:

Here is a Gray-line Analysis of this HO0Z 40m DX propagation that might have
interest to you, and the groups. All of the below was discussed in my recent
presentations. 

The Sunrise Terminator is currently 23.12 deg. 
The Tucson Bearing to OH0Z is 22.3 Deg. 

If you look at my 40m F-Layer DX Propagation Map, it shows the 23 deg
terminator into Europe for Dec. 21st. 

Your signal path was ALMOST right along this terminator. 

For SR and SS metrics:
HO0Z SS was 13:31Z
Tucson SR was 14:14Z

Since SR was AFTER SS, dT = (Tsr-Tss] = + 43 Min. 

This suggests Gray-line Propagation Opportunity might be possible,(for 43
min) and your 40m signal path is next investigated. 

The difference between the Bearing and Terminator was 0.82 degrees - bearing
towards DARK. 

At your 1411Z QSO, both stations were in Twilight. Your 0.82 degrees signal
deviated towards the DARK twilight region by 57 miles at 1/4 way around the
world. This actually occurred near and well within the Civil Twilight target
OH0Z. 

CONGRATULATIONS.. FROM A PURIST PERSEPETIVE (as I know you are), YOU MADE A
TRUE Great Circle GRAYLINE CONTACT ON 40M. I think you should get an award
for this!! I believe these type contacts are rare, despite all the articles
and presentations on Gray-line.   

Per my 40m F-Layer DX map, keep listening (2.6 Hrs before/after terminator)
down this SR 23 deg terminator +/- 38 degrees (or down the SS -23 deg
terminator +/- 38 deg) for significant non-gray-line 40m DX for the
following weeks. 

As we noted with HEARD, consider checking higher bands for this time and >
+/- 2.6 hrs as well. 

THIS IS A VERY NICE EXAMPLE OF TRUE GRAY-LINE PROPAGATION. 

In the following weeks, we should also observe some nice 40m DX examples of
Terminator Enhanced Propagation as well.
