Wes,
As mentioned in my 3/24 REFLECTOR comments, propagation is +/- about the two
greyline times, and I have observed no consistency in the SP or LP or AM/PM
propagation strength to Heard Island.
What I found interesting last night.. was the disappearance of the East
Coast Clutter on 20m, just before I worked Heard. I could not hear any
pile-up QRM down from 14027. NOTHING! VK0EK was calling CQ Dn, suggesting
no pile-up was being heard at HEARD? This prompted my call with 200W.
There may be a sweet spot in the evening, when West Coast propagation peaks,
and East Coast Propagation subsides. Best of Both Worlds, for US! It was
9:31pm here at the time of my contact, or 12:31am EDT. (Last time I checked,
things were pretty quiet on 20m, by 12:30am locally.)
In this case on 20m, using Mother Nature to block out the East Coast QRM at
Heard, is a good tactical plan!! Hi Hi. It may also apply to 17m, just
before the band crashes. I'll check this out tonight..
As Jerry (W6XI) pointed out, Technology is making DX much easier than in the
"OLD DAYS", except for fellow Operators exhibiting poor judgment, regarding
Spectrum Utilization etiquette. I put exploiting Mother Nature, to block
Eastern QRM (and associated bad operators), in a similar category.
The fun is in the chase, and the challenge in the face of adversity.
Best 73s, Bill W7EXG

Congratulations.
I seem to be missing the times that they're coming through. I check and
they're
not there, or buried in noise or jammers, I go away to do other things and
come
back to find that they were worked an hour earlier by everyone else in AZ.
At
least I got them on 30 for a new one. It's pretty much a given I think (as
I
predicted) that they won't be going to Spit Bay as promised by the glib
salesman
Bob.
I'm having no better luck with the FT5. They are more easily heard but the
pileups just get more and more unruly. Fortunately, I don't need this one.
This
is supposed to be fun, but it isn't anymore.
