If it makes a thump, that sounds like power is getting
to the XFMR. You might have lost the Bridge Rectifier
or the Op Amp.

Stick a DVM across the big filter cap and see if you
get voltage, something like 18-24 vdc IIRC.

If you got voltage it may just be the regulator got bit.
