[SADXA] Fw: Liberian Radio Club Support Proposal

Hi Wes,

I guess the attachment didn't come through. I know some reflectors don't
handle them. It appears we have a used but good antenna to be donated. But
if anyone there in Tucson would like to help support Dickson with a second
antenna or coax or actually anything that could be used for the club station
that would be great. 73 Tom

Hi Tom,

I would like to make a proposal to the CADXA, so I thought I would start
with you and the BOD.

Since the Voodudes returned from Liberia, with the help of the CADXA, we
have been supporting Dickson, EL2DT, in his goal of being on the air more
often. He has gone back to work after the Ebola crisis and he has a new
boss, Mr. Emmanuel Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence is an alumnus of the Booker
Washington Institute (see http://www.bwitiger.org/ ) in Liberia. The school
is trying to re-build it's Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department
and when Mr. Lawrence found out that Dickson is a ham, he proposed that
Dickson establish a ham radio club at the school. Dickson has made several
trips to the school ( a 50 mile trip) and this past weekend, he held an
orientation class for anyone interested in ham radio. Over 60 people
attended.

At Visalia, I contacted both YASME and the NCDXF to see if they would be
willing to help support the cause. Although I need to write short proposal
documents to both of them, they expressed their willingness to fund the
purchase of most of the training materials. I also spoke with Dick, N6AA,
and he said I might be able to convince the League to donate some training
materials also. That should take care of the classroom material.

I have told them I will donate a brand new, still in the box, FT450 to the
club. Dickson is able to get a power supply in country, but they still need
an antenna and coax. Dickson has done a survey of the building where the
club will be and it seems the best antenna solution is an all band vertical.
So, I would like to propose that CADXA purchase an R7 (or equivalent)
vertical antenna and donate it to BWI for the new club station. I am working
with the BWI Alumni Association to arrange shipment of the equipment and
training materials - I don't have a schedule for that.

I am also making a proposal to my local radio club, the Yavapai Amateur
Radio Club to purchase the coax. And I am writing to Martin Jue, K5FLU, the
owner of MFJ/Cushcraft to see if he would be willing to give us a discount
(or a donation).

I would really appreciate it if you would discuss this with the BOD and
perhaps take it up with the club. Of course, I am willing to answer any
questions and I am planning on attending the BBQ.

Thanks for your help.

73, Bud N7CW
