N7CQQ, John; W8AEF, Paul; and KD6XH, Clifford; arrived in American
Samoa (KH8) and "are scouting out the locations" where the W1AW/KH8
ops "plan to operate before they go over to Samoa (5W) to operate in
the CQWW contest this weekend", says N9NS, Mike. If they can get up
some antennas they might get on the air as homecall/KH8, before they
head to Samoa. The rest of the W1AW/KH8 team expects to arrive late
on October 31st, which is 11 hours behind UTC. They expect to begin
operations by November 2nd and ending "sometime on the 14th". In all
there are nine ops heading to KH8, but not all are staying the entire
two weeks. They are: N9NS, Mike; N7CQQ, John; W8AEF, Paul; K4ZLE,
Jay; KD6XH, Clifford; N0FW, Pete' KE0A, Rod; 5W1SA, Atsuo; and G3KHZ,
Derek. They may be "joined by locals Mike/AH8E, his XYL Kendra/AH8W
and possibly by Uti Gandy KS6FO (SK AH8LG, Larry's widow)" says Mike.
Operations are expected to take place from two locations. First the
shack of the late AH8LG and from the Maliu Mai Beach Resort, which has
hosted other KH8 operations, on the beach on the southwestern part of
the island. The ARRL Website reports the W1AW/KH8 call can be used
from November 5-18.
