DX-ers, et al.,
Heard a sudden enhancement in white noise on 50.125 this morning
while working a nice 6-m opening. It had to be the Sun. Sure enough,
the GOES X-Ray graph showed a rising flare in the M-Class range, while
the noise was raging on 6-m.
Flare got up to about the M-8 Class range, falling short of X-Class on the
logarithmic scale.
Propagation was "sterilized" on 6-m and 10-m for a few minutes, but, as the
flare ceased, stations came back on 6-m and heard many beacons on 10m
Time of flare-noise noted here on the atomic desk-clock, 09:31:30 MST,
or 16:31:30 Zulu, Sunday, July 8 2012..
It's always a privilege to be on the air and to hear these things in real-time
from the sun. For some of us, it's the only Radio-Astronomy we get to do. ;-)
