This information came from the CADXA reflector.

This is very good information to know if you look at DX spots on some node on the internet.

Check it out.

Now that Jon N7AZ has upgraded his AR Cluster node to a CC Cluster node, using VE7CC’s node software, it is every bit as good and configurable as VE7CC-1 or any other CC Cluster node. He is connecting to seven nodes now, including VE7CC-1, so any DX spot on that node is also on Jon’s node.

N7AZ is currently connected to four CW Skimmer stations (they are not conventional nodes): K1TTT-#, NC7J-#, WA7LNW-#, and WZ7I-#, so he has LOTS of spots available. If you want more information on CW Skimmers, many of which feed the Reverse Beacon Network, see http://www.reversebeacon.net/ .

The best way to connect to N7AZ is with VE7CC’s free CC User program, which can be downloaded at http://ve7cc.net/ . Documentation is on that web site.

The default node to connect to with that program is VE7CC-1, so you have to select Jon’s node, N7AZ, which is still listed as an AR Cluster node. Click on Configuration, then select Cluster (Telnet) and then scroll down about halfway down the list, which is in alphabetical order after the current CC Clusters, and click on N7AZ. Then click on Apply and then click on Exit.

You can turn CW Skimmer spots on or off easily with that program. The selection is in the Settings tab (“Skimmer”). Even if you have turned on Skimmer spots you can chose to not display them with the check boxes in the DX tab (top right corner).

There’s no need to be overwhelmed by the volume of spots because you can filter them to get spots only from countries and states/provinces you want. I have mine set to receive only spots from the US and Canada most of the time. You can even filters for each band. I have my 6M spots set to receive spots originated from stations in WI or IL, for instance. You can even turn spots on and off for different bands using a specific GMT time or based on sunrise/sunset.

If all CADXA members connect to N7AZ then a Local announcement (made by clicking on the Ann tab, then the Announce button, and selecting Local, which is the default) will go to only those connected to N7AZ. Doing that would make sending DX spot emails on the reflector less needed. The information will be received immediately if one is connected to N7AZ and at the computer.

So you don’t have to connect to an out-of-state node to have the best. Patronize your local node, N7AZ. (It’s not local to me, here in IL, but I like to stay in touch with CADXA friends.)
