All,
I was looking over the news on QRZ today, and found something to get spun up about.
>From QRZ:
Bad news! House bill HR607 threatens 70cm band! This bill has ten co-spsonsors right now with bipartisan support.
See attached pdf Section 207(d)(1) on page 25. This bill has to be stopped! Please spread the news and contact your rep.

Here's my note to my congress person. Feel free to flavor to your liking.
Mrs Giffords,
First, I wish you a speedy recovery.
House bill HR607 is currently being introduced. It contains a provision to auction off parts of the amateur radio spectrum known as the 70 centimeter band. This spectrum is currently used by amateur radio operators who have effectively used it in various emergency communications to include (in Tucson) search and rescue services as well as charitable activities such as the 24 hour bike race and El Tour De Tucson. This resource is has been used to coordinate Red Cross and many other activities. It was made available during the World trade disaster, and was one of the backbone resources during Hurricane Catrina. It continues to play a central role in citizen to citizen emergency use and coordination.
Auctioning off this public resource is similar to auctioning off Reid park. It greatly effects the people who use the resource. It makes the resource unavailable in case of disaster, and removes a resource from volunteers who make themselves available in times of disaster.
I urge you to oppose this bill. The relevant sections are on page 25, section D -- where it talks about auctioning off the bands from 420 to 440 MHz.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions on this.
Thank you very much,
Douglas Todd
