ARRL Field Day at the NJAA Observatory
Special Event Station W2A.
www.njaa.org
Good evening.
I wanted to bring everyone up to date on our plans for Field Day at the NJAA Observatory.
1. The telescopic compressed air tower is now resting at the observatory.
It has been setup, lubricated & tested and is in excellent working condition.
2. Today I dropped off the rotator and controller. The tri-bander is also at the observatory.
3. Weather forecast does not look good for outdoor operations thru the weekend to Sunday morning.
4. After conversations with fellow ham's we think it's best not to setup outdoors with the beam this weekend.
Keith Sproul has kindly said that we can have use of the tower for 2/3 weeks.
So what I would like to do for Field Day is operate indoors at the observatory with my Icom 7610 using my Palomar EFHW 73' wire antenna. We will sign as special event call W2A and operate as Class D (indoor, commercial power).
This Saturday at the observatory is a very busy day for us (me).
There is a board meeting scheduled for 4:00PM that will take from 1 to 2 hours.
Then at 8:00PM we host the public and will have Dr. Kristen McQuinn, from Rutgers University speaking about using data from the James Webb Space Telescope in her studies of galaxy formation.
This will all end about 10:00PM.
So at that time, I will setup the radio and start operating Field Day. I will be there all Saturday night and Sunday until Field Day ends. Please join me anytime.
Also everyone is invited to join us Sunday morning when ever you can. We will continue radio operations until Field Day ends. Coffee and refreshments will be available.
Operating Field Day is not just about points, it's about the camaraderie, making new friends and introducing those to the hobby who are interested in Amateur Radio.
Next week we will setup the beam and get it on the tower and setup operating position's most likely indoors.
So the intention is to have everything setup for next weekend Saturday and Sunday (July 1&2) all day / night to operate using the tri-bander at 50'.
Everyone is invited to join us then to operate the station or be an observer to learn about amateur radio.
If you can't make it next weekend, then let me know because I will be there often and want others to operate the station also. During the day, evening or whatever time is best for you. Just let me know.
Thank you all for your understanding and support.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Best regards and 73's.
