If you are interested....and it is important to the National Weather Service
to have spotters....tonight there's a 2 hour webinar and opportunity to
become a "Skywarn Spotter".
NWS needs "on-the-ground" spotters to give detailed reports of significant
weather conditions.....radar and satellite do not give the detail spotters
can provide for weather conditions. (Spotter information is also key to
information provided to broadcasters.)
Here is some info and an embedded link to register;
Good Morning Everyone,
Thank you for your interest in the Skywarn program and for registering for
the webinar occurring this evening, Monday, December 7 at 6 PM! I have a few
reminders and notes about the webinar below. Trent Davis (copied on this
email) will be leading this webinar. If you have any questions, please feel
free to email Trent or me.
. When you log into the webinar, all participants will be muted. There are
around 90 people registered for this webinar, so in order to ensure a good
experience for everyone, we will keep the participants muted. However, you
can type any questions through the GoToWebinar GUI, and Trent will try to
answer as many as possible throughout the webinar. If we don't get to your
question, please feel free to email either one of us after the webinar. The
good news is that this means you don't need a microphone for the webinar!
You only need an internet connected device with speakers or headphones. For
the complete system requirements, visit here
<https://support.goto.com/webinar/help/system-requirements-for-attendees-g2w
010003> . You can join with most tablets and smartphones.
. If you are 18 years old or older, live within the region that our office
covers (Much of SE PA, Most of NJ except NE NJ, All of DE, and 4 counties of
MD - all of the counties that our office covers are listed on the Google
Form), and are interested in becoming a registered spotter with our office,
please fill out the Google Form here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc3odB8sEeM5msigoSGmp2BWu5qowAUi1v
ELfA6i41yU4AHRw/viewform?usp=sf_link> . Registering as a spotter is
optional, and if you would prefer to decide after the spotter training, that
is fine too. You can fill out the google form any time up to a week after
the webinar. Thank you to those of you that have already filled out the
form!
. Unfortunately, we can't allow those under 18 to register as a spotter
because of privacy concerns, but we still welcome your participation on the
webinar!
. For those that will be registering to be a trained spotter, please note
it may take up to 4 weeks after the webinar today for me to send you (via
email) your spotter ID number. I'm hoping it won't take nearly that long,
but we've had a lot of interest in our webinar and recorded presentation.
. If you live outside of the region that our office covers, don't worry!
You are still welcome to participate in our webinar too! If you are
interested in registering as a spotter with your local office, please send
me an email with your city, state so I can put you in touch with your local
office after the webinar.
. If your plans have changed and you aren't able to attend this webinar,
but are still interested in becoming a Skywarn spotter, send me an email and
I will be happy to share other options with you. Unfortunately, this is the
last webinar for this year, but we have a recorded version which you can
watch any time (you only need to complete one of the options).
Please let either Trent or me know if you have any questions at all and
thank you again for your interest in the Skywarn program!
Sincerely,
Sarah
