Hi, All!
Yesterday I was with some friends from my radio club here in Albuquerque and we gave a presentation about Ham Radio to a group of about 10 fourth and fifth graders who were attending a daycamp at the American Museum of Nuclear Science.
We demonstrated Ham Radio using a Kenwood TH6 through a local 220 repeater and IRLP to a friend’s repeater near a Los Angeles. The kids had an opportunity to chat on the air.
When we were through I told the story of when I was on an Alaskan cruise and the ship was docked in Juneau. I tried to use IRLP to link to the repeater back home. Not hearing anyone, I texted Eric Lund NW2P (SK) whom I had never met but only spoke to on the repeater, and encouraged him to get on the air with me. After several texts went unanswered, I decided to give him a call on the phone. I said “Didn’t you get my texts?” He replied “Is that what that beeping was on my phone? You know I’m blind, right?!” I was surprised to learn this, we had a good laugh, then had a nice QSO subsequently!
After telling my story, Bill Kent N5UJC, laughed and then noticed the license plate on the car parked next to our little group! See below!

(If the photo doesn’t come through, it is of a Subaru with Alaska plates!)
I just love synchronicities! 73,
