Dear Gerry,

You may recall that in episode 208 with Dr. Ulrich Rohde, N1UL, that after
immigrating to the United States, Dr. Rohde went to work for the Radio
Corporation of America in the 1960s, in the Princeton, NJ area, where he
worked on early versions of Software Defined Radio or SDR.  That was a
surprise if you thought, as I did, that SDR was a relatively new 21st
century technology.

It turns out that my guest this week went to Princeton University to get
his PhD in musical composition where he has become a notable classical
music and opera composer.  Frank Brickle, AB2KT, was able to combine music
composition, computer programming, and his background in radio to become an
early pioneer in SDR technology and the co-author of PowerSDR software, the
engine behind FlexRadio's early SDR transceivers.

This episode of QSO Today is packed with SDR history that was a surprise to
me.  I love surprises and I think you will too.
