[RVRC] Listen in to ARISS school contact with ISS....Friday, 24th April

Hi everyone,
Well, it was a ''quasi success''. The ISS didn't pass close overhead and so
the access time between AOS and LOS was quite ''short'' and signal strength
was low and ''noisy''. But I did ''copy'' the transmissions on 145.800 MHz
from the ISS and listened to Samantha Cristoforetti, IZØUDF, answering
questions from the class which was scheduled to make the ARISS contact.
Of course, the up-link was conducted on a different frequency and I have no
doubt that the ISS downlink that was used for the contact with the class was
other than 145.800 but the downlink audio was, nonetheless, also on the
normal downlink frequency of 145.800.

I was ''mobile'' at the time using my 3 DBd gain mag-mount antenna with my
Wouxun U/V8D which has a measured sensitivity of .15 uV for 10 DB SINAD
(signal and noise to noise ratio). This resulted in a nearly full-quieting
signal from the ISS (with some minor fade episodes).

Even though not having had my own QSO with Samantha, it was inspiring to
listen-in!

Just so everybody knows, the qso may not be on 145.800 (the standard
downlink for the iss) The times I have been present for these things a
"secret" 2m frequency is chosen to prevent QRM (intentional and
unintentional) so you might have to tune around. Good listening!
