If we decide its a good idea and good for the club we can work on s workaround to make it possible for 1-2 hours per week. This is healthy dialog

I don't usually get into this kind of email debate, but feel strongly enough about this issue and I agree with Sue. I have locked the 440 machine out of my scan, don't listen to it, and so I don't know how many of our members use it. From my perspective, the club has only one repeater, on 146.625. I'm not against linked systems - I regularly monitor the BEARS (PA/NJ/DE/MD) network, and also Reflector 20A on D-Star. I monitored the other BEARS (Disney, etc on the Belle Mead repeater) machine, helped with signal reports as they were putting it together, but found I have no interest in the conversations that take place on it - that's the way I feel about the networks our RVRC 440 machine is connected to. I personally got a lot of enjoyment from the IRLP linkage our 440 machine had a few years ago. It allowed me to temporarily connect to remote machines I was interested in (for example, in Maine where I vacation) or it allowed me to connect back to my local friends when I
was out of town and found an IRLP machine to use. I remember one particular trip to DC where I had a great time talking with RVRC members while I was on a business trip. There may be technical or other reasons I'm not aware of why IRLP was abandoned, but it was fun for me.
You can't please everyone all of the time, so the majority rules in cases like this. I only offer my humble opinion. Sorry if I've clogged up your Inbox with another rant you don't want to hear!

Why are we paying for repeaters we can never use because distant people on links are always tying them up? The only linking we should be doing is linking our repeaters for nets or for members traveling and want to talk to family or us back home.
