And I have one of those re-purposed cases for my FT-897 as well - it's a treasure.  Howard was one of those guys who was ALWAYS interesting to talk with, as we often did during our mutual commuting time.  He was a great fan of working FM simplex car-to-car whenever possible, something I continue to enjoy.  I've missed him since he moved to Florida.
