  Dayton Hamvention Exam Session Results

  During the Dayton Hamvention the Laurel VEC coordinated free exam 
sessions on Friday (16 May) and Saturday (17 May) at the Basore Grace 
Brethern Church.  The church is located about 3-4 minutes from Hara 
Arena by free shuttle van service that ran every half hour and often 
sooner.

  The church facilities are far superior to those in Hara - the church 
is air-conditioned and the bathrooms were immaculate and fresh. 
Additionally, the members of the church provided freshly cooked food 
from 9AM until about 4pm.  Their menu included made to order breakfast 
burritos, hamburgers, and brats as well as a variety of beverages and 
home baked goodies.  The food was fresh, tasty, and very affordable. 
The VEs and the applicants were well fed throughout the exam sessions.

  During the two days of exams, 245 exams were administered to 194 
applicants
  139 Applicants passed at least one exam element for a success rate of 
72%
  157 exams were passed and 88 were failed for a pass rate of 64%
  128 Element 2 exams were administered - 90 were passed for a pass rate 
of 70%
  66 Element 3 exams were administered - 43 were passed for a pass rate 
of 65%
  51 Element 4 exams were administered - 24 were passed for a pass rate 
of 47%

  90 new hams resulted from the exam sessions
  80 Technicians
  4 Generals
  6 Amateur Extras
  Some of the new hams from Friday's exam session had their results 
uploaded to the FCC by 12:30 PM and their new calls were granted by 
12:35 PM.  The rest of Friday's successful applicants had their results 
uploaded to the FCC by 5:20 PM and their upgrades and new call signs 
granted by 5:36 PM on Friday.

  Saturday's applicants had their results uploaded to the FCC on Monday 
and were available for viewing as early as 4:22 AM

  License distribution:

       80 Technicians
       34 Generals
       24 Extras

  Some of Friday's new hams upgraded on Saturday.
