Detours start Wednesday around Weston Causeway construction in Franklin

Priority state DOT repairs to the Weston Causeway Bridge over the D&R Canal in Franklin will mean a big detour for many drivers lasting well into the summer. The state Department of Transportation will spend $1.7 million on a new span to replace the existing one, which has been deemed structurally-deficient. Since it's in a historic district, it must adhere to certain design standards; it'll be steel and timber, with a timber deck, and asphalt overlay. What it all means is a long detour for drivers, scheduled to start Wednesday. Posted signs will direct those who need to get between Franklin and Manville to take Schoolhouse Lane, Elizabeth Avenue, Amwell Road - Rt. 514 - and Millstone River Road.
