Hi,
I wondered if any of you would like to trade your 2 meter radios for a NJ
Horse Park radio and help time for the marathon at the Horse Park on the
27th. It is not a club sponsored event but you will be fed and get to see
horses pulling marathon carriages up close. I am extremely short of
volunteers and will welcome all volunteers. We will meet at 8am and should
be done by 1:30pm.
There are 3 sections to the marathon with vet checks mid point and the end.
We need timers for:
The 3 sections - you are at the start or the end of a section and you read
the time from a synchonized clock for each horse and radio in the time.
Timers for the obstacles themselves - you click the stop watch when the
horse passes the start and again when he comes back out the gate and radio
the time he spent in the obstacle. There are 7 obstacles. We need 14 timers
(2 to an obstacle so there is a back-up).
Timers for the midpoint check - you write down the time a horse enters the
vet check and tell them when they have about 2 minutes left and then when
there time is up. They are in the vet check about 12 to 15 minutes,
whatever they tell us. These times do not get radioed in. 2 at the
midpoint.
Vet check scribes - as people take pulse, respiration and temperature, you
note the numbers on a sheet. This is done for each horse at the start of
the vet check and again before the horses are released to do the last
section. 2 scribes are needed at midpoint
The Horse Park of NJ is located just off Exit 11 on Rte 195. I go down the
Turnpike to Exit 7A which is 195, but if you live near Flemington, you would
go 31 to 95 North to 195 East to Exit 11 (Imalayan and Cox's Corner). Take
a left off the exit ramp, pass Tractor Supply and take a right at the first
intersection. Go about 1 1/2 miles and the Horse Park is on the left. Slow
down when you see the Horse Park sign as the entrance does not have a huge
sign and you could easily pass it if going too fast. There are signs to the
Horse Park starting on Rte 195. When you enter the Horse Park the road will
fork. Take the right fork which leads past the dressage ring to a pavilion.
That is where we meet. Park anywhere in the lot.
We serve all volunteers a light breakfast, snacks and drinks throughout the
day and a box lunch. If anyone wants a vegetarian lunch, let me know ahead
of time.
The event goes on rain or shine so please bring a chair and appropriate
clothing. The event is only held on Horse Park property so you are
relatively close to the pavilion. We will car pool to the various areas.
Please let me know if you can make it as I am very short of volunteers this
year.
Thanks,
Mary Nelson
