Authorities in Somerset County widen their distracted driving crackdown

11/19/2013

Authorities in Somerset County are expanding their enforcement of distracted driving, deploying extra traffic patrols on random days of the week. The target is to cut down on drivers using hand-held cell phones while behind the wheel. The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and several other top law enforcement officials say the problem is growing, which is why they're expanding their two-year-old "Put It Down" initiative. Statistics show that last year, 44-percent of all crashes in Somerset County were caused by driver inattention or distracted driving. The first six months of this year, that number was up to 46-percent. And the numbers are even higher for new drivers, in the 16-to-21-year-old age group.

Be aware that Somerset County is 'on patrol' for distracted drivers. Police will not know your HT or handmic is not a cellphone and if you get stopped, the likelihood is you'll receive a summons. It is also unlikely that once pulled over, you will not be successful with changing the officer's intent to issue a summons!!!

BEING FOREWARNED IS BE FOREARMED!!!!
