Mike:
The repeater can be a great source to recruit new members. However, every member communicating through it, or using it has to understand that he or she is an ambassador in good faith, and thus must be polite, courteous, and caring. As I've monitored the repeater in the past, I have heard some - not always - members ignored calls, or answered in a contemptuous tone , and a minute later acknowledged others who are friends . As we use the repeater we need to be aware that we are using our voice only to project a friendly image, and we must use "good" communication practices.
The above has driven away potential members, or discouraged some people from becoming HAMs.
Perhaps, many may disagree, but this an objective observation.

No one is working on nor does anyone want to raise dues. To raise dues we
need to change the bylaws and we are planning to not do that if at all
possible. The repeater is finally working pretty well so get out there on
the radio and drum up some new members! That will help pay some of our bills
while the new blood will help revitalize the club. I'm not yelling at anyone
here, I'm trying to get everyone excited to get the club back on the map so
to speak. Mike, KB2VRM

Subject: [RVRC] Dues increase potential
There's always additional fund-raiser activities RVRC can do. Some years
ago we ran an auction that generated additional revenue. Marty, KB2JSG, I
believe was the point-man on that. Other clubs run several auctions yearly
so that we, together with our hamfest earnings, might come up with as much
funds as raising dues moderately would raise! I caution the membership
against wholesale increases of dues as it has a higher than desired drop-out
effect.
If other organizations can raise funds without assessment (or mandatory dues
increases), so can RVRC. The club simply can't ''wish'' for funds, we have
to go out and generate/earn it!
