You may have seen this before...but it's worth a second look. That morning
I felt I should take our little 25' fishing boat and go over to see what I
could do. I knew the boat was too small for the job that would be asked of
it .....when the phone rang. It was the police department asking that I
come down and give them a hand with the radios, so that's where I ended up.
I'm sure my little "Ritabird" could have taken people off, but would most
probably have been in the way of the big tug boats and party boats that
answered the call. Two days later I tried to take "Ritabird" out of our
creek and was headed off by an orange colored RIB with two 50 caliber
machine guns mounted on a tripod in its front. The Coastie said, "You don't
want to go out today, Cap'n! Jerry Salzer
New words to live by: Never say I should have, just do it!
I never knew the details of the water evacuation of lower
Manhattan on 9/11. It is so worth watching and should
help renew your faith in mankind! You will most likely
need a tissue.
