Hello all - from the NNJARES 73 de N2DV
The NWS is promoting Flood Safety Awareness Week from March 15-19 2010. Local NWS offices will be sending out specific information during the week on various aspects of Flood Safety, etc in Public Information Statements which you should be able to find on their Websites starting next week:
NWS Mt Holly NJ: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/phi/
NWS Upton NY: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/okx/
Complete information on the Awareness Week is available here: http://www.weather.gov/floodsafety/
Why is Flood Safety Awareness important you may ask....the NWS notes that: "Each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other severe weather related hazard. The main reason is people underestimate the force and power of water. More than half of all flood related deaths result from vehicles being swept downstream. Of these, many are preventable."
