What a interesting weekend!
I've prepared my station a week ago because we took a family holiday and arrived
back on Friday evening. Seems that was a good plan but...
I've noticed there was some interference using Triplexer and HP BPF from 4O3A.
Had a small conversation with Dragan (Zimba) 4O4A, he was trying to help me but
without success. Anyway, appreciated your time, mate!
Also, there was a hint from Simon, S53K (he is using almost the same setup)
about bad connector or so. More to come...
Started on 80m. Moved a bit too late to 20m (around 0130z), fantastic opening to
the States. Saturday was more or less business as usual (trying to find CQ
frequency and doing SO2R for MTPLs). There was still huge QRM on higher bands
via triplexer and decided to check antenna coaxial cable. Balun on my LZA Beam
was broken (water issue); I had other balun which I've used for 40m inv V during
the contest. So, easy work: cut the wire from 40m dipole, an old balun was
already removed, fix a new one, find a new coax cable, erect the antenna, make a
new dipole for 40m and install it. A big thank to my daughter Una-Mia, she was
my BIG support with antenna work.
Lost about 90 minutes time was too tired and gone QRT around 2230z, I know it
was too early, but the idea was, CONDX should be great on Sunday too and will
try to reach scores from MM9I, PA9M and IK3UNA (Mirko, please use next time
onlinescoring, it makes more fun :-))) ).
About Sunday, no need to say anything. A crappy CONDX.
40m was running band almost all day long, S/P on other bands.
At the end, at least three more stations from EU has better score (PA9M with
amazing score and runs, as well as MM9I and IK3UNA). Congratulations!
Some thoughts about contest:
- some people are rude, they doesn't understand meaning of "frequency is in
use". The worst case was S5**** station, started to call CQ on 40m around
1.1 KHz lower. I've ask them to move a bit down, but he said there is an another
station there and he can't do that. To be fair, there was some other stations
and they moved a bit or founded a new frequency (9A6KX, DQ5M etc...).
- starting on 80m was not a good idea. 20m was winning band first night here in
EU.
- The number of QSOs could be way better.
- Claiming new DL record in SOAB T/S HP... I set the record last year with
5.32M.
Equipment:
Flexradio 6600, PGXL, 4O3A HPF & triplexer, NC1 headset
LZA 10-5 beam (10 el. 5 band beam, 2 el per band @10m high)
40m inv V dipole
160/80m UA2FZ GP
Thanks to all who called or spotted me. A special thank to OH5Z, the only one
worked on all six bands.
73, Zik DK8ZZ
