I bought a pair of after-market, flat, cross rails for such use
and take off the Subaru not-flat cross rails for the contests.

It's been over 8 years since I bought them and I know I dealt directly
with the manufacturer's website -- not through Amazon. But I no longer
remember the manufacturer. You should search outside the Amazon
universe, too.
It turns out the rails I chose were steel, but aluminum would've
worked just as well for me. My use/needs were modest as related to
mounting a "frame". I only have a solar panel and 432 mast mount in my
setup:

But, I would feel confident in cobbling up a more elaborate lash-up
with those cross rails to make a frame for various antennas.
Caveat: Your manufacturer's cross rails were designed and shaped for
your vehicle. After-market (flat) cross rails will introduce a
little/some/alot of wind noise -- but, so will any "frame".
