Subject: [Rover] REMINDER: W2EA High Knob,
	FN21KH - 2018 ARRL September Contest Operation!
Message-ID:

Hello VHF+ Enthusiasts!

*What are you doing this weekend September 8th & 9th?*

The South Jersey Mountain Toppers ARC consisting of several Pack Rats and
SJRA members will once again trek to High Knob, grid FN21KH, a remote
location in the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains. We will be operating as W2EA
for the September Contest at 2047 feet ASL on all bands 50 MHz thru 10 GHz
with good antennas and power.

We know that some of you may only be on for a short time, so we will be
monitoring the ON4KST chat page as well as Ping Jockey Client. We are
generally on 50.133 and 144.185 + or - QRM. Give us a call there and we
will run you up the bands! In addition, any other acceptable assistance
methods can be used to alert us of your availability during the contest.
Please see our listing in the W3SZ / K1RZ Database at the link below:

http://w3sz.x10.mx/k1rz/K1RZDataGridTablesAll.php

By the way, if you operate in the North, Mid or South Eastern Atlantic
geographic areas and have not entered your info in the Database, please do
so for others to see at the link below:

http://w3sz.x10.mx/k1rz/getUpdateForm.htm

Those of you who have been to a remote location in June or September know
it takes quite an effort to plan, set up, operate, and disassemble a
mountain top station. We look forward to working many of you and possibly
giving you a new grid (FN21) on all 10 bands!

*NOTE:* To Pack Rats and all ARRL Affiliated Clubs: Don't forget, all your
club member's logs submitted add to the combined ARRL Club Competition
score for your club!!
This contest has offered good conditions, e-skip, tropo, 10 GHz rain
scatter and most of all Fun! The only thing missing may be you :-((

Tnx, GL, es 73,

Bob, W2SJ & Bill, K3EGE

I'll just be operating on and off from home under my call, but Chris KG6CIH
and our friend David WH6DSN are heading out in the K1SIG rover. Keep an eye
out for them!

Sean WA1TE

K1SIG/R will be hitting the road again for a somewhat less ambitious
rove. Sean's out due to a new kid, but David WH6DSN will be taking his
place and we'll be using my car and gear instead of Sean's.

This will be a stop & shoot style operation - fewer but longer stops,
beams, and more intensive setup.

We will be operating on:

* 6m, 2m, and 70cm:  Real power, real beams.
* 1.25m: Low power, real beam. Anyone got a spare amp they no longer
  need?
* 23cm: Low power, hopefully real beam. I waited a bit late to order
  the antenna. If it doesn't show up, we'll be using the 2el PCB yagi
  and a whole lot of hoping.

We can do SSB and FM on all bands, and I can do hilariously crappy CW if
necessary. We are not set up for digital modes at this time. While on
the road, we will occassionally throw out a call on 2m and 70cm FM but I
do not anticipate much coming from that.

Our tentative schedule is as follows. There's a chance of rain starting
to creep in for Sunday, which might throw everything off. I don't have
time to build some waterproofed way of getting coax into my car.

Saturday

* 1800 UTC: Dresser Hill Rd - Charlton MA - FN42ac
* 2100 UTC: Soapstone Mt - Somers CT - FN31tx
* 2359 UTC: Walmart - Putnam CT - FN41bw (worked all Wal-Marts!)

Sunday

* 1200 UTC: Lowe's - Bedford NH - FN42gw
* 1400 UTC: Tower Hill Rd - Bow NH - FN43fc
* 1800 UTC: Bly Hill - Newbury NH - FN33xi
* 2200 UTC: Hogback Mt - Marlboro VT - FN32ou

I'll definitely consider other locations if anyone has clever ideas.
I'll also be harvesting phone numbers from posts to this list, but I'd
prefer to not post my phone number here saved for all time. If you need
it, just ask. We'll also be K1SIG-R on APRS.
