The Honda EU series. I have the 2KW size, EU2000. As advertised in QST by Mayberry --discounted for ARRL members. (mayberrys.com)
This uses inverter technology and is appropriate for ham electronics. Costs about $800 or a bit more.
I also have seen that Harbor Freight appears to have something similar--almost a "knock-off" of the Honda for same power, using inverter, etc...for about $450.
But it depends on your budget and power needs. Even Harbor Freight sells one that's about 800W for under $100!
I actually do not really use a generator for roving. I use six marine batteries--two sets are in parallel to supply 12 V to the bands ABCD and the other set for the microwaves--bands 9EFGHIJ, and the third set is in series to supply 24V to some of my amplifiers that need the higher voltage (903 and 2304 amps)
DO IT!! We love to rove. 73, Rick, K1DS
