I would like to know what brand of generator current Rovers are using for their power source. Thanks, Warren - K2BM Trustee - N2NK From rick1ds at hotmail.com Sat Aug 30 13:48:47 2014 From: rick1ds at hotmail.com (Rick R) Date: Sat, 30 Aug 2014 13:48:47 -0400 Subject: [Rover] Rover Question In-Reply-To: <0NB400KEQRT6YZI0@mta5.srv.hcvlny.cv.net> References: <0NB400KEQRT6YZI0@mta5.srv.hcvlny.cv.net> Message-ID: The Honda EU series. I have the 2KW size, EU2000. As advertised in QST by Mayberry --discounted for ARRL members. (mayberrys.com) This uses inverter technology and is appropriate for ham electronics. Costs about $800 or a bit more. I also have seen that Harbor Freight appears to have something similar--almost a "knock-off" of the Honda for same power, using inverter, etc...for about $450. But it depends on your budget and power needs. Even Harbor Freight sells one that's about 800W for under $100! I actually do not really use a generator for roving. I use six marine batteries--two sets are in parallel to supply 12 V to the bands ABCD and the other set for the microwaves--bands 9EFGHIJ, and the third set is in series to supply 24V to some of my amplifiers that need the higher voltage (903 and 2304 amps) DO IT!! We love to rove. 73, Rick, K1DS > Date: Sat, 30 Aug 2014 13:41:38 -0400 > From: n2nk at optonline.net > To: vhfcontesting at contesting.com > CC: rover at mailman.qth.net > Subject: [Rover] Rover Question > > I am thinking of trying to operate as a Rover soon (January or June > 2015). Small, light, quiet, reliable, long-running on one tank. Try before you buy to be sure it meets your needs. Be aware that "2000" actually means it's rated for 1.6 kw continuous and 2 kw peak. If you have a linear amp of 500w or more you should look into both the EU2000i and EU3000is and see what works best for you.
