So does this mean that I would have to drive to 100 different grids and make
2 metre contacts to qualify for VUCC/r on 144 MHz?

This sounds like the reverse of captive roving. I would have to work only
one station from the required number of grids. Working multiple stations
would not count towards the total.
Am I understanding this correctly?
