[Rover] 2 ele quad on 6

Hi All,

I've never used or seen this quad, but I've given much
thought to trying a quad for
6m roving before.

I didn't try it, mainly because of the vertical height
on the mast. I use
one mast for all of my antennas, and leave them
assembled [but lowered]
during travel. The height of the 6m quad would have
made it difficult to
share the same mast with all of the other yagis. Of
course, if you plan to
break down and re-assemble antennas at every stop,
then it wouldn't be a
problem. Of course, as Phil was pointing out, a yagi
may be better for this
anyway.

With my setup, I would worry about mechanical
durability as well. Again, I
haven't seen one of these antennas so I don't want to
sound critical of
their design. But I would worry about any quad going
through 65mph+ constant
wind load, and an occasional low hanging limb thrown
in to boot... Most of
my homebrew antennas have had pretty short lives do to
these conditions:-)

The one big advantage to a quad that made me give them
a lot of thought is
the smaller overall width of the antenna. A yagi is
roughly 9' wide, but a
quad can be only about 4.5' wide. This is great if
you move with antennas
in place as I do. I think some folks actually travel
with the 9' width, but
I don't want to try it myself. I did use a homebrew
Moxon rectangle for
awhile [until the tree limbs done it in] which was
about 7' wide. Even this
seemed a little wide to me, so I usually turned it 90
deg. for travel.

Currently, I'm using a single, homebrew, half wave
loop. I'm planning to try running two of these in
phase. If this doesn't make me happy, I'll likely go
back to a better version of the Moxon.

Good luck!
Dan
